International Workers' Day originated in the 19th century. During May 1886, thousands of union workers took to the streets to fight for their labor rights. One of the most important demands during the protests was the fight for a fairer working day, which should consist of 8 hours of work.
In the demonstrations, which took place from May 1 to 4 of that year, many people were injured and killed, which led to a trial that would leave 3 workers sentenced to life imprisonment, and 5 of them sentenced to death. That is why International Workers' Day is celebrated on May 1, to commemorate the workers' struggle and workers' rights.
