Welcome

Galeria Pacifico was opened in 1987 by its founder, Gary Thompson, based largely on the premise that Puerto Vallarta as an international tourist destination presented a unique window to the world to showcase the incredible artistic talent and heritage of Mexico. From the beginning Mexican artists were given the greatest emphasis. The few foreign artists selected, such as Jim Demetro, Patti Gallardo and Lee Chapman, had Mexico as a primary residence and their work reflected the artistic sensibilities and historical antecedents of the country. Another founding premise was that paintings and sculptures show well together, and the gallery has always presented a fairly even mix of the two.

Occasionally an artist can be equally talented at both mediums, as is the case with Brewster Brockmann and Hugo Barajas. These two also represent a trend where artists from Guadalajara have made the Vallarta area their residence, and Roberto Vazquez is another example. Some artists such as Alfredo Langarica have continued living in Guadalajara while showing their work in Vallarta. The sculptor Ramiz Barquet started in Mexico City but moved to Vallarta for the last thirty years of his accomplished career. San Miguel de Allende is another source of artists showing at Galeria Pacifico, such as Magdiel Perez, Juan Ezcurdia and Miguel Angel Morales. Nearby Queretaro is home to the husband and wife painters Benjamin Hierro and Luz Urdaneta.

Galeria Pacifico works in cooperation with Biblioteca Los Mangos Cultural Center and Library and has participated in their annual fundraising art auction as well as seeking donations from the Free Malecon Sculpture Tour, which Pacifico’s owner founded 17 years ago. The gallery also features displays of their artists at the Hotel Four Seasons, Terra Luna Shops at Garza Blanca Resort, Restaurant Trio and Galeria Demetro. Pacifico is managed by Carlos Santana Villaseñor, who before arriving 21 years ago was the manager of the Manuel Lepe Gallery/Museum for a few years.
