Part of Café Candela's uniqueness is due to the fact that it's situated in what used to be an old barn, which gives the entire restaurant a charming Old Town flavor. According to one of the restaurant's three owners, Alejandra Dávila, "dining at Café Candela is like having dinner at a friend's house."
Offering a wonderful open terrace where you can enjoy a fresh cool breeze while you dine in a laid back atmosphere, Café Candela is one of the best places in Puerto Vallarta to meet new people while enjoying simply delicious dishes and a wide variety of cocktails along with great music!
This uniquely cozy restaurant serves an array of eclectic dishes, ranging from the most wonderful pizzas to Lonches Tapatíos (a special bread bathed in a spicy tomato sauce,) goat cheese stuffed artichokes and anchovy mushrooms to Mediterranean salads - just to name a few of the specialties.
Café Candela first started in Zapopan Guadalajara 7 years ago, when friends of Alejandra Dávila, Mariana Arregui and Francisco Ochoa would visit them on the weekends at their new little place, where they would cook for fun and invite some of their artist friends to come over to play music or share their performances.
At first they didn't have a clue of what they were really doing, all of the dishes were created by improvising with the ingredients they had on hand. The only real recipe they had was for stuffed mushrooms, one of the favorite dishes of Francisco's grandmother, who, by the way, is the lady with the Swordfish that appears on the cover of the menu.
Suddenly, Café Candela became a concept, and the restaurant quickly developed into a serious business, growing in importance and taking center stage in Guadalajara's culinary, artistic and cultural scenes. Today, the restaurant is a huge success and has hosted some of the most interesting artists in the area.
Last year Alejandra, Mariana, and Francisco decided to bring this unique concept to Puerto Vallarta with the idea of offering both locals and tourists the same cuisine, cocktails and cultural events that made the original Cafe Candela a success.
Some of the things that make the Cafe Candela concept so unique is that the restaurant uses regional organic ingredients in their dishes in support of the local economy and culture. And, since a large part of the restaurant's furniture is made from recycled materials, a future project, or "Wild Dream" as these three friends call it, is to develop an association of local artists focused on recycling trash to construct or create even more usable and practical daily gadgets.
In fact, their list of professional values states; "Live better with less - less aesthetics and better ethics, less is more... better solutions come from simple ideas."
Located in downtown Puerto Vallarta at Guerrero #311, Café Candela is a must do, a place to experience a fine meal in a friendly environment, especially if you are a person who loves to enjoy those quality moments in life.
